Abigail Martin
Abigail is a Research Fellow at Stanford’s Sustainable Finance Initiative. Her research examines questions of environmental governance and political economy in just transitions to a low-carbon economy. Past projects have focused on the politics of expanding low-carbon value chains through comparative case studies of the biofuel, natural gas, petrochemical and solar PV industries, with particular attention to the interplay of industrial policies and mobilizations for environmental, labor and climate justice in fenceline communities and transnational advocacy networks. In addition, she is interested in questions of public accountability in carbon accounting and the widening application of LCA in regulatory science and the growth of solar PV cooperatives.
As Research Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex Business School in the UK, she has served as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator of research programs on the governance of industrial decarbonization and just transition outcomes in the UK, Norway, the Netherlands and India. Past positions include Visiting Professor in Climate and Energy Policy at UC Berkeley's College of Natural Resources and Environmental Sociology at the University of Stavanger in Norway, and Research Scholar at the UC Berkeley Center for the Green Economy.
Abigail received a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from UC Berkeley, with a certificate in Science & Technology Studies (STS) from the Center for Science, Technology, Medicine & Society, and an undergraduate degree from Barnard College, Columbia University.
