Scaling Reliable Electricity Access in India: A Public-Private Partnership Model
Since attaining independence in 1947, India has focused on achieving universal rural electrification. However, despite making progress on increasing village-level electrification, 45 million rural households still had no access to electricity in 2017 (REC, 2017). This has raised questions around the efficacy of traditional approaches to energy access and on the role of the private sector in enabling deeper rural electrification.
